Premium windows and doors are built to last decades — with a small amount of routine upkeep. Here's how to care for each material and product type.
Wood & Clad Wood Windows
Dust interior wood with a dry cloth; use a mild soap solution only when needed and dry immediately.
Inspect interior finish yearly — recoat before bare wood is exposed.
Never let condensation sit on the sill; wipe it down during cold snaps.
Clean exterior cladding with water and mild detergent; avoid abrasives and solvents.
Entry & Patio Doors
Rinse fiberglass and steel slabs with clean water; touch up nicks promptly to prevent corrosion.
Vacuum then wipe patio door tracks; lubricate rollers with a dry silicone spray, not oil.
Tighten hinge screws and confirm the strike plate aligns cleanly before winter.
Reseal stained wood doors when water no longer beads on the surface.
Builders & Developers
Wash frames twice a year with warm water and mild dish soap.
Skip bleach, ammonia, and pressure washers — they can dull and pit the surface.
Vacuum the sill track so weep holes stay clear and drain properly.
Check that weatherstripping still compresses evenly when the sash is locked.
Glass, Screens & Hardware
Use a soft cloth or squeegee with a non-abrasive glass cleaner — never scrapers on coated glass.
Remove screens and rinse gently with a hose; let them dry fully before reinstalling.
Lubricate locks, cranks, and multipoint hardware annually with a light silicone lubricant.
Report a failed seal (fog between panes) — most units are covered by manufacturer warranty.
